Small Business Saturday 11/25/17: Central Coast Style

Shop Small and Make a Big Difference

Small Business Saturday—the first Saturday after Thanksgiving—is earmarked to spotlight the positive things that happen from shopping locally. Meet local business owners, discover one-of-a-kinds gifts and unique services, and help local economies thrive.

Shop locally, have fun, and do big things by shopping small.

Launched in 2010 by American Express, the event was created to attract customers to small businesses still recovering from the Great Recession. Today, Small Business Saturday has expanded to every state in the U.S. with many cities participating with organized Shop Small events.

Here’s the scoop on North and South SLO County events.

Paso Robles
The Downtown Paso Robles Main Street Association event begins at 9:00 am and lasts all day. Stop by downtown shops, many of which will offer special sales, refreshments, and other enticements to Shop Small.

San Luis Obispo
The nonprofit organization Downtown SLO created the Small Business Saturday Passport to make it even more fun, and rewarding, to shop locally.

Just pick up your free passport at any of the 30 participating business, get eight stamps, and drop your completed passport off at four locations (noted on the passport) by 6:00 pm tomorrow evening.

One winner will be randomly drawn and receive a gift basket filled with gift cards to Downtown SLO shops and restaurants. The winner of the gift basket will be announced at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, November 27 at Mission Plaza (you don’t have to be present to win).

An easy way to get started is to make the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce your first stop (895 Monterey Street). Get your passport, your first stamp, and shop the Chamber gift store’s selection of local products, which are 20% off during Small Business Saturday. They even carry wine from Chamber member wineries (sorry, wine is not 20% off).

SLO Transit will be offering free downtown bus service for shoppers all day.

Shop Small on the Central Coast
Even if your favorite Central Coast town isn’t holding an official Small Business Saturday event like Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo, no matter!

It’s still a great day to get out, meet local shop owners, support neighborhood businesses, and find special gifts.

So shop small and make a big difference.
